While following the BUFF Dudes plan, skarples focused on growing muscle for body recomposition. He cut calories for 12 weeks and achieved his goal, but it was not an easy process. Skarples reminds his followers that keeping track of daily weight fluctuations is important to grasp weight loss patterns and to avoid beating oneself up for temporary upswings.

Skarples' workout routine did not involve any exclusive core work as compound lifts and hip thrusts provided enough core involvement. The focus was on developing a well-rounded body, and high-intensity interval training was used twice a week for 20 minutes as cardio. Skarples advises people not to change diet before embarking on a fitness plan. Instead, they should dive right in and trust that their body will start changing after the first few weeks.

For the BUFF Dudes plan, phase one is four days a week, which can be structured according to individual schedules. Phase two is a five-day week with the weekends as rest days, while the third and fourth phases are six-day splits with Sunday being the only rest day. Skarples mentions that phase three is the toughest, but the BUFF Dudes have YouTube videos and tips on their form and range of motions. They also have plans for individuals seeking to work on their abs.

Skarples encourages people to find a workout routine that they enjoy and that challenges them. They should also aim for a diet plan that is sustainable and does not make them feel deprived.
