Realizing the Problem and Making a Plan

The Reddit user with username CHooTZ, at the age of 19 and 6'3" tall, weighed 225 pounds and felt out of shape. The realization made him decide to lose weight. He started drinking lots of water and tracking what he ate using MyFitnessPal app, which revealed the calories in the snacks that he was eating. He ate an average of 1500 calories, down from his estimated TDEE of around 2300, for most of his weight loss journey.

Exercising without Smart Planning

After a year of his transformation, he lost nearly 50 pounds. He wanted to gain muscles and began doing some basic bodyweight exercises, but he did not do enough research to make a proper plan. Hence, he had an idiotic exercise regimen and insufficient knowledge of nutrition for muscle gain. Consequently, his results were less satisfying, as he gained only 10 pounds after some months of half-hearted exercising.

Learning About Nutrition and Smart Exercise Regimen

Eventually, the Reddit user found /r/bodyweightfitness and learned about the importance of progressing through difficult exercises to gain significant improvement. He created his graphics chart documenting his progress. He continued learning and discovered /r/fitness, where he learned about the benefits of hitting the gym and good nutrition for muscle gain. He started eating better and aimed for an intake of 160g protein daily. After some research, he found Starting Strength to be the best program for his goal.

Going to the Gym and Getting Hooked

When he gained access to a gym at his university, he started the Starting Strength program, and he loved it. He enjoyed the atmosphere and the defined progression, and he used Jefit to track his lifts. He was improving but still had low lifts numbers. Eating nutritious food was a challenge because he had a strict meal plan and could not buy groceries. Nevertheless, he was satisfied with his transformation and looked forward to another two years of improvement.

Transformation Achieved Through A Consistent Journey

The Reddit user weighed 173 pounds from 225 pounds, lost 50 pounds, and gained 12 pounds of muscle in 26 months. He started with comprehensive research and planning for weight loss before learning about nutrition and exercising for muscle gain. He trained his body to progress through difficult exercises and embraced the gym atmosphere, recording his improvement. His transformation is the result of a consistent journey and a willingness to learn and try new things. His journey teaches us that we can make significant changes to our body and health by making our story, too.
