Introduction
Losing weight is a struggle for many people. However, one woman on Reddit managed to drop from 220 pounds to 165 pounds and maintain it for over a year. She shares her tips and story on how she achieved this feat.
The Struggle
The woman's struggle with her weight started during her puberty, and no matter what diet she tried, she could not keep the weight off. She tried many diets that left her feeling hungry and deprived. Eventually, she would give up, and the weight would come right back. She lost significant weight three times between the ages of 13-33, but the longest she kept the weight off was almost six months. According to her, the problem was that every diet she tried was temporary because she could not see herself doing it indefinitely.
The Keto Diet
The woman discovered the keto diet through Reddit's r/keto community. She found the idea of eating a diet that was 60% fat, 30% protein, and 10% carbohydrates fascinating. The meals she had pre-keto were mostly carbohydrates and low in fat, while keto was the opposite. She mentioned that the keto meals clicked with her, and complying with it wasn't hard. Therefore, she could see herself doing it forever.
Steady Progress
The woman reported that she lost weight steadily and consistently for the majority of her weight loss journey. In the first few months, she lost about a pound a week, which slowed down to about a half a pound a week. The last 20 pounds were more of a stop and start, where she was more in tune with her body. When she started struggling with hitting her deficits, she stopped focusing on them and ate until she was comfortable. Eventually, she found it easy to hit deficits again.
Maintaining the Success
Maintaining the weight loss was easy for the woman as she began listening to what her body needed. She bounces around between her goal weight and ten pounds above it, depending on how her body feels. While loosely tracking calories and keeping to keto, she doesn't worry too much about going over her TDEE for a day or two. She only tracks strictly whenever her hunger starts feeling like pre-keto.
