M/19/5’8 [195 LBS —> 155 LBS = 40 LBS] (12 months) Originally I had gone down to 145, bulked up a bit, and found that I like how 155 looks and feels better. Took about 3-4 months to lose 50 lbs, a year total to get from 195 to now. Gym for 11 months consistently, thoughts? Do I have bad genes?

The Starting Point

The Reddit user, M/19/5'8, started their weight loss journey at a weight of 195 lbs. Though they don't mention it, it's important to note that this weight is classified as obese for their height.

The Journey

It took the user about 3-4 months to lose 50 lbs, and another 8 months of consistent gymming to get to their current weight of 155 lbs. However, what's interesting to note is that the user had initially gone down to 145 lbs after losing the first 50 lbs, but found that they liked the way they looked and felt better at 155 lbs. This experimentation is important in finding one's ideal weight, which differs from person to person.

The Consistency

While it's easy to get caught up in the pounds lost and gained, what's truly impressive is the user's consistency. They went to the gym for 11 months consistently, which is no easy feat. Consistency is often touted as one of the most important factors for success when it comes to weight loss or any other form of self-improvement.

The Genetics

The user ends their post with a question that is on many people's minds - do I have bad genes? However, it's important to remember that genetics plays a role in weight loss, but it is not the be-all and end-all. There are still many controllable factors that contribute to weight loss, such as diet and exercise, and it's important to focus on those.

The Takeaway

The user's weight loss journey is a testament to the fact that consistency, experimentation, and focusing on controllable factors are the keys to success. While their journey may not be replicable for everyone, the overarching principles certainly are. It's important to find what works for you, and to be consistent in your efforts to achieve your goals.
