Introduction

Many people strive to lose weight, but for Reddit user gotrdid, it was a bit of a roller coaster journey. Over 2.5 years, they gained weight, then lost some, while engaging in different physical pursuits.

The Ups and Downs of Bulking

After starting at 148 pounds, gotrdid initially bulked up to 171 pounds during a year-long powerlifting kick, with a focus on lifts like the squat and deadlift. However, after feeling heavy and thick, they moved towards cutting calories and the weight started coming off.

Finding Balance in Cutting

For the next year, gotrdid focused on cutting and losing the excess weight. They lost 15 pounds and gained some definition, but also felt more tired, lethargic, and had some injuries. They realized that their deficit might have been too intense and their focus shifted to maintaining balance.

Overcoming Plateaus

Despite facing some plateaus, gotrdid kept at it over the past few months and actually lost a few more pounds. Their weight fluctuated between 156 and 160 and they focused on eating healthy, lifting weights and doing cardio.

Takeaway

gotrdid's journey shows us that weight loss and fitness is not a linear path. Everyone's body and lifestyle are different, so it's important to find what works for you. Balancing exercise and diet and not focusing on immediate results may lead to better long term outcomes.
