From Alcoholic to Hospital Patient: A Wake-Up Call

The reddit user "M374llic4" had been an alcoholic for six years, drinking over 1.75 liters of vodka and going out every night to drink whisky. One day he realized he was near liver failure, and went to the hospital. He was pulling in over 4,000 calories a day just from the vodka, putting him at an estimated 5,500 calories daily. He weighed 309 pounds, but had no idea until his jacket became too snug.

A Sober Journey to Weight Loss

After detoxing and being sober for four months, M374llic4 lost 100 pounds, now sitting at 209. He cut all alcohol completely, and started eating only 1,000 calories a day to help him on his weight loss journey. In the beginning he wasn't hungry and would only eat 4-500 calories a day, but he felt his body's malnutrition symptoms and knew he couldn't continue on that path.

A Healthy Lifestyle for Maintaining the Loss

After the initial drastic weight loss, M374llic4 started to eat healthier, switching to drinking only water, occasionally coffee, eating egg whites for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and another chicken salad or chicken by itself for dinner. He has also started running and doing push-ups and core exercises, so his weight is slightly increasing due to added muscle. Additionally, he has gone from a 3xl shirt size to a normal Large.

Moderation and Support is Key to Success

M374llic4 still goes to bars, but he has a lot of friends there who are very supportive of his sobriety and weight loss journey. He has zero urge to drink knowing that he would end up back where he started. His friends would smack a drink right out of his hand if they saw it. He has had a new lease on life and is in disbelief that he is actually at his current size.

Conclusion - Overcoming Addiction and Obesity

M374llic4's story is an incredible journey of overcoming addiction and obesity. While he admits that his weight loss was drastic, it illustrates the importance of taking care of the body and making changes to live a healthier life. Anyone who is struggling with addiction or obesity can take hope from his story, which shows that with dedication, support and healthy choices it is possible to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
