After the birth of his son in 2010, the Reddit user started thinking about losing weight and getting in shape. After a year or so, he began light jogging which led to participating in a Warrior Dash, a 5K obstacle course/mud run.

He then went on to train for 10 months with his friends for a Tough Mudder, a 13-mile obstacle course in the mountains near Lake Tahoe. Prior to the event, he started with CrossFit and did a lot of hiking to prepare for the challenge.

After that, he ran with his wife in the Bay To Breakers race across San Francisco. It was then that he heard about an amateur night of Mixed Martial Arts fights for Redditors, which prompted him to start training with a local MMA team.

Despite not having trained in any martial art before, he matched himself up with an opponent and began training like a maniac. He learned that his grappling had potential and ended up winning his first amateur MMA fight in Las Vegas after losing weight and getting into shape.

The Reddit user's inspiring journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and dedication. If you're thinking about losing weight and getting into shape, perhaps his story will inspire you to take action and start your own journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
