Journey of Weight Loss

Valveuni, a 18-year old 5'6'' Reddit user has shared her journey from a weight of 200 lbs to 162 lbs. Her weight loss journey started when she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, and it took a long time to figure out how much medication she needed. She had earlier weighed 123 lbs, but the Hashimoto's made her gain a lot of weight. She avoided the scale for a long time, but the first picture of her album was taken in July 2012 at her heaviest. The second and third pictures on the album were taken recently, where she now weighs 162 lbs.

Obsessive Workouts and Eating

Valveuni started her weight loss journey with obsessive calorie counting and sports such as cycling 24 km five times a week, running four times a week, and 30-day shred exercises every day. She avoided the scale, but as her clothes became loose, she knew she was making progress. From May, she started therapy three times a week for depression issues and began using antidepressants.

Learning to Listen to Her Body

She stopped calorie counting and even gained confidence to buy a scale to track her progress. Encouraged by the continuous decrease in the numbers, she started consuming 1600 kcal a day, but due to medication, her appetite dropped, and she ended up eating around 1100 kcal most days. Valveuni admits that this is not a healthy way for optimal weight loss. However, she learned to listen to what her body needed, and to focus on other signals beyond numbers.

Finding Self-Worth Beyond Size

Valveuni aims to hit her target of 120 lbs, but her happiness depends on her goal, and she accepts that the number does not define her beauty or worth. While her depression and inferiority complex still persist, she confirmed that it is slowly improving every week due to therapy and medication. Hence, she advises others going through weight loss journeys to take it easy, listen to their body, and be kind to themselves.

Conclusion

Valveuni's journey shows that a healthy lifestyle can be sustained through deliberate decisions and persistent action. She heard her body's signals, changed her diet, worked out obsessively, then shifted her focus to what makes her happiest. Through it all, she learned to love herself for who she is regardless of her size or weight.
