Introduction

Gustoid's post on Reddit about his weight loss journey has taken the internet by storm. In just nine months, the 43-year-old man managed to lose a staggering 86 pounds, reaching a goal he had set for himself. His unique weight loss plan involved calorie counting, walking, and boot camp. Read on to find out more about his amazing transformation.

Details of his weight loss plan

Gustoid began his weight loss journey in December 2014, by using My Fitness Pal to count his calories. After four to five months of calorie counting, he began to walk regularly of 5 kilometers every day after work. He then joined boot camp in July, where he continued to lose weight. He lost about 10 pounds per month just by calorie counting, while adding the walking regime increased his weight loss to 10-12 pounds per month. When he started boot camp, his weight loss decreased to approximately 5 pounds per month while he presumably gained some muscle mass.

Gradual reduction in calorie intake

Gustoid started by setting his daily calorie limit to 2000 but gradually reduced it over time to his current limit of 1500. He diligently tracks every day, and as of the time he posted his progress on Reddit, he had a 246-day streak going on MFP. Gustoid notes that the use of a Fitbit tracker helped him to monitor his calorie burn per day and accountability. If he did not get enough exercise, it was easy to see.

Transitioning to muscle gain

Gustoid mentioned that he plans to transition from weight loss to muscle gain soon, but he was not sure of the best way to manage the transition. He was not looking to bulk up but mentioned wanting to add a bit of muscle and definition. Reddit users provided several suggestions for building muscle without bulk, including checking out the r/bodyweightfitness subreddit, where he could gain strength and definition without bulking up. Some users also suggested the 5x5 strong lifts workout plan.

Final thoughts

Gustoid's story demonstrates that gradual progress and consistency are key requirements for sustainable weight loss. His transformation shows that with diligent tracking using apps like My Fitness Pal and Fitbit Tracker, and exercise, substantial weight loss is achievable. Gustoid's journey serves as an inspiration for anyone who has contemplated weight loss and encourages them to start small and build up gradually. By doing what works for them, and building good habits over time, it is possible to reach their goals — just like Gustoid did.
