PCOS made weight loss incredibly hard for Reddit user

The Reddit user, demichka, suffered from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and was always overweight, which is a common symptom of this hormonal disorder. After taking infertility medication, she gained ~40kg (~88 lbs) in less than half a year, pushing her from overweight to deeply obese and developing Cushing's syndrome that explained her face shape in the 'before' photo.

Pregnancy helps but not enough

After getting pregnant, demichka was happy to lose weight naturally. However, despite losing around 25 kg, she remained overweight due to the increased BMI and the lingering effects of PCOS. Over the next 5 years, demichka tried different diets like keto but these did not work for her as she was a vegetarian and found it very challenging to stay the course.

Metformin and calorie counting brought great results for Reddit user

Once she learned about metformin and PCOS-mediated lower basal metabolic rate, the Reddit user started taking metformin and reduced her daily calories limit to 1050. This regimen was effective and she lost around 26.5 lbs in just 2.5 months, making her thinner than she had ever been as an adult. Now that she can lose weight quickly and see tangible results, it is not difficult to keep the motivation going. Demichka did not limit any food groups or deprive herself of food but focused on calorie count and kept regular intake of fruits and veggies.

Lessons learned from demichka's journey

Demichka's journey highlights the importance of knowing your body and seeking out scientific, sustainable approaches to weight loss. PCOS is a common hormonal disorder that affects weight loss, and it is essential to know the different approaches that might work for the individual. In demichka's case, Metformin and calorie count worked wonders.

Celebrate small wins, embrace the journey

Demichka's weight loss journey is an indicator that there is light at the end of the tunnel for anyone who wants to shed excess weight, lose body fat and feel more confident. Therefore, we must celebrate small wins and embark on our weight loss journeys wholeheartedly, with an open mind and a willingness to explore scientific solutions that work for our bodies.
