Initial weight gain:

Jetemelie gained about 30-40 pounds over two years, and despite eating healthily with proper portion control, found it challenging to lose weight with a 1200 calorie diet and exercise. She experienced a lot of plateauing and sought advice from reddit on cutting more calories, which did not work out for her.

Diagnosed with Hashimoto's:

This fall, jetemelie was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, an autoimmune thyroid disease. Her doctor explained to her that it was probably the reason behind her rapid initial weight gain and why it was challenging for her to lose it. The doctor recommended a gluten-free diet for auto-immune patients, and with the combined proper medication, Jetemelie began to see changes in her body.

From Weight Loss to Muscle Gain:

Jetemelie is incredibly happy with how her body feels, and doesn't intend to lose any more weight. She's excited about getting stronger through the Starting Strength 5x5 program and putting on muscle mass.

Motivation for Readers:

For anyone out there struggling with sudden weight gain and finding it challenging to lose weight with proper dieting and nutrition, Jetemelie advises getting thyroid bloodwork done. Her diagnosis was a significant surprise, but she was happy to receive it. With proper treatment, her body saw significant changes. Her journey demonstrates the value of perseverance, and that the right diagnosis and solution are out there.
