Halfricehalfnice is a reddit user who has been on a weight loss journey. She started consuming a lot of protein, using free weights, and doing body weight exercises since March 2018. When she first started, she weighed 167lbs, and her current goal weight is 150lbs. Her initial post indicates that she has gained 6lbs in muscle mass since beginning the journey.

The Scale Can Be Deceiving

Halfricehalfnice frequently second-guesses herself because of the scale. She focuses on the number too much and forgets other factors such as muscle mass growth and overall physical appearance. It is crucial to remember that muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space. Halfricehalfnice's progress is evident when looking at her posture and muscle growth since her initial picture.

Focusing on NSVs

Halfricehalfnice has taught us that we need to focus on NSVs (non-scale victories) such as how our clothes fit, overall physical appearance, measurements, and feeling healthy and strong. Focusing on NSVs can be an excellent motivator for our fitness journey since numbers on a scale can fluctuate, leading to discouragement.

Fixing Relationship with Food

Halfricehalfnice is also working on fixing her relationship with food. It is necessary to make healthier choices regarding food, but consistently monitoring and restricting oneself can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. It is essential to have a healthy balance by eating in moderation and making most meals healthy options rather than restricting or binging.

Conclusion

Halfricehalfnice's journey illustrates that the scale does not tell the whole story. It is important to focus on physical appearance, NSVs, and creating a healthy relation with food, leading to an overall healthier lifestyle. We should remind ourselves not to be discouraged by the scale's numbers, take before and after pictures, and be proud of our progress.
