Through his post and comments, he provides insight into his diet, workout routine, and mentality that helped him achieve his goal.

Strict Diet Plan

Umbra's diet was strict in the beginning, as he was focused on losing fat. He used the My Fitness Pal app to count calories and avoided sugar as much as possible. For breakfast, he would have oatmeal, Cheerios with soy milk, or an egg white omelette with veggies. His lunch options consisted of grilled chicken with brown rice and broccoli, Chipotle burrito bowls (no cheese or sour cream, double chicken), or a grilled chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. He would end the day with a bowl of lentil soup, often with added mixed vegetables and chicken. Umbra also noted that he targeted a daily protein intake of 150g.

Effective Workout Routine

Initially, Umbra did cardio almost every day to help with fat loss. However, as he progressed, he shifted his focus to lifting. His lifting schedule included chest and triceps on Monday, back and biceps on Tuesday, shoulders, traps and abs on Wednesday, legs on Thursday, and calves, forearms, and abs on Friday. He noted that his lifts had increased and continued to increase.

Balancing Muscle Building and Fat Loss

Umbra identified that finding the balance between building muscle and cutting fat is difficult. He points out that diet is key in this aspect, even more than lifting or running. He also noted that he is currently still cutting and wants to get down to 180, while his body fat percentage was measured at 18% at the time of the post. His LBM was calculated to be 172 lbs, which he took into account when determining his protein intake.
