M/21/5’10” [222lbs > 178lbs] (2 years) today marks the day I’ve officially reached my goal and couldn’t be more proud of myself. There were so many days that I thought I would not reach here but I just had faith in myself. Self belief is probably the most important part to this.

Setting the Goal

The user, M/21/5’10”, had set himself a goal of losing 44lbs in 2 years. More than losing weight, he was determined to improve his overall health and fitness. A target weight loss of 1lb per week is considered a healthy target by experts. By setting a realistic goal and giving himself enough time, the user was able to set himself up for success.

Importance of Self-belief

There will be trying times in any weight loss journey, but it's essential to maintain the belief that the ultimate goal can be achieved. Believing in oneself is an underrated attribute, but the Reddit user attests to its importance. He states, 'Self-belief is probably the most important part to this'. Positive self-talk and visualisation techniques can help to maintain self-belief throughout the weight loss journey.

Sustainable Lifestyle Changes

Fad diets and temporary changes rarely bring sustained results. The user mentioned that he made small and sustainable but, crucially, realistic changes to his lifestyle such as 'drinking more water, cutting down on processed foods and reducing takeaway meals to once a week'. Swapping high-calorie drinks like soda for water and taking the stairs instead of the elevator can also make a significant difference. These changes, while seemingly small, can help in both the physical and psychological aspects of weight loss.

Consistency is Key

As in most things, consistency is key. The user mentioned that there were times he lost motivation or fell off the wagon, but he made sure to get right back on track. The user also attributes his weight loss success to 'making it fun'. Finding activities that are enjoyable, like a dance class or a hike with friends, can make physical activity less of a chore and more of an enjoyable experience.

Celebrating Milestones

At the end of the two years, the user had reached his goal weight and was proud of his hard work and perseverance. Celebrating milestones – be it weight loss or other achievements – can help in maintaining motivation and self-belief. Small rewards like treating oneself to a movie or a new book can reinforce the idea that hard work and dedication can lead to meaningful achievements.
