Joining a Community as a Motivator

Reddit user JohnnyBates7 lost 70 lbs in his weight loss journey, which took him 5 years to accomplish. As one of the food industry worker who struggled with both unhealthy diet habits and irregular lifestyle, JohnnyBates7 managed to get things on track. Three big things helped him stay motivated to achieve his weight loss goal. First, he joined CrossFit and made working out 5 times a week a norm. Second, JohnnyBates7 discovered that the calories you consume count more than the amount of exercise you do. Finally, he learned early on that he couldn't afford to take the weekends off. These were the principles JohnnyBates7 learned in order to maintain his success.

Making Dietary Changes: Flexible Eating Plan

JohnnyBates7 tried a number of different diets throughout his weight loss journey, including slow carb, keto, low/no carb. What worked for him was a flexible eating plan that was geared towards higher carbohydrates and proteins, and lower fats. This eating plan was provided by Renaissance Periodization, a nutritionist who JohnnyBates7 worked with in January 2020.

Consistency is Key

Despite the ups and downs of his journey, JohnnyBates7 didn’t let this discourage him. He had a goal and made sure to keep pushing forward, using his previous slip-ups as learning experiences. Doing so, he was able to go from a weight of 245lbs to 175lbs. His weight loss, admittedly, wasn’t linear, with setbacks and plateaus, but he kept at it anyway. JohnnyBates7 also emphasized how joining the CrossFit community and finding new friends with similar goals helped him stay accountable, motivated, and on track with his weight loss journey.

From Orange Theory to CrossFit

JohnnyBates7 started off with Orange Theory and slowly moved into CrossFit. Together with his flexible eating plan, CrossFit helped him get from 215lbs to 200lbs. JohnnyBates7 then switched to his nutritionist’s plan, which helped him cut down to around 185lbs. Finally, he followed an RP cutting plan and got all the way down to 175 lbs.

Consistent Effort to Maintain Success

JohnnyBates7 is now focusing on bulking and cutting again to sit at a higher weight with similar body fat. His advice for those hoping to embark on a similar journey? Consistent effort is key! Remember that keeping motivated and staying consistent with your goals is key to success.
