Introduction
Reddit user Alphabunsquad shares their 4-month weight loss journey from 180lbs to 155lbs. Taking control of their lifestyle after an initial bounce from being stuck in lockdown, Alphabunsquad used a combination of unique eating habits and incorporating physical activity with their dog. Read on to learn more about Alphabunsquad's approach.
Unique Eating Habits
The main emphasis of Alphabunsquad’s weight loss journey was food control. Their unique eating schedule consisted of not eating during the day, with a healthy dinner consisting of eggs, salmon, chicken, or soup with fruits and nuts as snacks. For their midnight snack, they had high-fiber cereal with whole milk avoiding high sodium and cholesterol foods. By sticking to around 1500 calories a day, Alphabunsquad was able to keep hunger at bay without feeling the need to pack in more low-calorie food. In addition, Alphabunsquad would indulge in a beer or two occasionally.
Incorporating Physical Activity
While exercise was not a regular part of their routine, Alphabunsquad did go on a bike ride through the mountains of New Hampshire for over 350 miles. However, this ride did not bring about any significant loss in weight. Instead, most of the weight loss occurred during the last two months of its journey with the help of their dog. By taking their dog out for long walks, runs, aggressive tug-of-war games, and playing with him for around half an hour to an hour each day, Alphabunsquad got a full-body workout. They found that focusing on muscle groups allowed them to build muscle over time. Although Alphabunsquad did not have regular gym access due to the pandemic, they would do pull-ups, shoulder exercises with 20lb weights, and push-ups to stay active.
Conclusion
One important takeaway from Alphabunsquad's journey is the importance of food control. They emphasized choosing to control the food that came into their home, rather than attempting to control their cravings. By focusing on whole foods like lean protein, fruits, and nuts, Alphabunsquad was able to control their hunger without feeling the need to eat lower calorie foods. They also learned that exercise can come from various sources, including taking their dog for a walk, running, or involving themselves with sports. While gym access is limited, Alphabunsquad chose to improvise and perform bodyweight exercises while focusing on muscle groups.
Takeaway
While everyone's weight loss journey is unique, Alphabunsquad’s journey demonstrates that food control is essential to success. With a diet plan focusing on whole foods and adding physical activities into their routines, it is possible to achieve a healthy weight. Whether it’s spending time outdoors or incorporating a new activity, finding something that works for you can be the key to success. Try incorporating some of the practices mentioned into your daily routine and see how it works for you.
