Introduction

Reddit user sski94 has been unintentionally recomping for the past 7 months while focusing on his weight loss journey. He started at 123lbs and is now down to 120lbs.

Bodyweight Composition Changes

Although sski94 is cutting, he has managed to increase his powerlifting lifts (B: 115lbs; S: 165lbs; D: 231lbs) despite weighing less. His weight has changed from 123lbs to 120lbs which shows he's been recomping, which means adding muscle and strength while losing fat simultaneously. It is a rare phenomenon, and it is commendable that sski94 has been able to achieve this without really noticing it.

Lessons Learned

One of the biggest things sski94 learned in his weight loss journey is how his body responds to different situations he put it in. Switching from very high protein to high protein made no difference in his gains, and he was also able to learn the effect of weekly binge drinking and other recreational activities and their impact on his training. He feels he is now more in tune with his body and can make better food choices.

Looking Forward

Sski94 is not in a hurry to reach his target weight, and he plans on finishing his cut properly before starting a controlled bulk. He realizes that it's essential to gain muscle in the right way, and he plans on staying between 10-15% bodyfat range. Instead of bulking too quickly, he plans on making minor adjustments in his diet and gradually increasing his bodyweight for muscle gain.

Conclusion

Sski94's weight loss journey shows that being mindful of your body and making adjustments to what works and what doesn't work can lead to progress. The unintentional recomp proves that it's possible to add muscle and strength while losing fat simultaneously. It's important to be patient and make informed decisions when making changes to your diet and workout routine. Try things out for yourself and see what works for you!
