F/33/5’11” [160>135=25 lb]. This was my initial attempt at recomp after 5 years of either being pregnant or breastfeeding. Ate at ~400 cal deficit, clean/paleo, weights 4 day per week + cardio 2 day per week.

Introduction

A busy mom shares her incredible recomp journey on Reddit, detailing her diet, training, and mindset.

From Pregnancy to Recomp

The user had been pregnant or breastfeeding for five years before deciding to focus on her body. She ate cleanly, following a paleo diet, and trained with weights four days per week and cardio on two days per week. After seven months, she achieved her goal of toned muscles, cutting 25 pounds of weight.

Mindful Core Exercises for Diastasis Recti

The user suffered from postpartum diastasis recti and received guidance on specific core exercises that would help with her condition. Mindful core exercises helped her with proper form and posture and include bird dog crunches, slow glute bridges, and forearms-based planks.

Diet as Key Component of Recomp

The user attributes her progress mainly to her diet, and she found out that cutting most gluten made a tremendous difference in revealing her abs. She advises avoiding refined sugar, over-processed foods, and gluten for a few weeks to reduce its intake.

Consistent Training and Evolution of Goals

Now that the user has achieved her initial goal, she is focusing on gaining more muscle mass and strength training. While at first, her primary goal was to lose weight, now, the scale number means little to her, and instead, she emphasizes consistency, smart training, and diet.
