A freak stroke and weight gain
At the age of 30, Ichishiro suffered a stroke that paralyzed his right side and affected his speech, appetite and sense of taste. His doctors suggest his weight, diet, job stress, and lack of exercise may have contributed to it. Before the stroke, Ichishiro weighed 240lbs, but he never thought his weight was unhealthy. However, the stroke gave him a new perspective and prompted him to make a change.
Losing weight despite challenges
Though the recovery process was tough and slow, Ichishiro didn't give up. He started by losing 30lbs in 29 days due to the poor hospital food. The physical therapy helped him lose another 15-20lbs, and walking 3-5 miles a day brought his weight to 180lbs. Now, nine months post-stroke, Ichishiro lost a total of 67lbs, thanks to his unyielding commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
Reliable support from new gym friends
Starting at a gym for the first time can be overwhelming, however Ichishiro was able to navigate his way through the process by taking group classes, learning from instructors and receiving support from his new gym friends. According to Ichishiro's Reddit posts, he credits his success to the camaraderie of gym-goers and the sense of community he found with his fellow fitness enthusiasts.
Appreciating the little things
Ichishiro's stroke made him realize the things he used to take for granted. Simple, mundane tasks like buttering toast, or putting on shorts are now hard, but with his OT, PT, and gym workouts, he's gradually finding his way back to a new kind of normal. Though the journey was far from easy, Ichishiro's grateful for how far he's come and how much he's learned about himself and his capabilities.
Encouraging others to try
Ichishiro's journey serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to lose weight and live a healthier life. His example demonstrates that it is possible to make progress, regardless of where you're starting from. By starting small, enlisting the help of professionals or friends, and committing to your goals, anything can be achieved. Ichishiro's journey has been a long one, but he's proof that it's worth it.
