Setting a Healthy Goal Weight and Finding Motivation

When ProgressPicsBot decided to get healthy, he set a goal weight within the healthy BMI range. However, his journey to reach that weight was slowed down by his girlfriend who only wanted to eat pizza and ice cream and watch TV. He eventually ended the relationship and decided to work harder at losing weight. He stumbled upon the subreddit /r/progresspics and created a bot to help cheer people on as well as to help him learn more about fitness.

Tracking Calories and Increasing Physical Activities

At the beginning of his weight loss journey, ProgressPicsBot tracked his calories to better understand what he was eating. To ensure that he burned more than he ate, he would make sure to burn at least 1,800 calories if he ate 1,600 calories. He also bought a Fitbit and started taking walks several times a day at work. He also started running which he later traded for mountain biking which he found was way more fun. He would also walk about 30-45 minutes during lunch.

Climbing and Building Muscles

Climbing has been the main motivation for ProgressPicsBot to get in shape. Though he had been climbing for 6 years, it was only within the past few months that he went from climbing v2 to v4. He goes to the climbing gym twice a week and finishes his workouts with hangboard and ladder exercises as well as leg lifts. He also rides his bike or runs twice a week at home. He does sit-ups and push-ups almost every day when he gets home and uses his hangboard to do pull-ups at home as well as on trees during his daily walks.

Reaping the Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle

ProgressPicsBot lost 25 pounds in 6 months, a weight loss of 0.96 pounds per week. He now has a BMI of 22.5 and feels stabilized with living a healthy lifestyle. His journey to lose weight was not easy but with the help of the bot he created, he was able to keep himself motivated. He reminds others that having a healthy lifestyle can help anyone achieve their goal.
