Volume Training
What is it?
Volume training is a type of workout regime that's focused on increasing the number of reps and sets for an exercise. It's also known as high-volume training or hypertrophy training. Volume training is often used by bodybuilders and strength athletes to increase muscle mass and size.
How it works?
The primary goal of volume training is to achieve muscle-hypertrophy">muscle hypertrophy or muscle growth. When you perform resistance exercises with heavier weights and higher reps, the muscle fibers undergo more stress and tension, which leads to the creation of micro-tears within the muscle tissue. As the body repairs these tears, the muscle fibers grow back stronger and larger. This process is called hypertrophy.
Benefits of Volume Training:
- Increased muscle hypertrophy and size
- Better muscle endurance and stamina
- Improved cardiovascular endurance and health
- Boosts metabolism and aids fat loss
Examples:
Examples of exercises for volume training include barbell squats, bench press, deadlifts, shoulder press, and chin-ups. These exercises are performed with heavy weights and high reps, with 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps being common.
