From anxiety medication to healthy coping mechanism

HammerWhales shared on Reddit how she's been dealing with General Anxiety Disorder since she was 16, which has been a constant in her life. Counseling and medication offer support, but she found that lifestyle changes – diet and exercise - provided that little missing factor that finally allowed her to gain control over her mental health.

Achieving her desired weight: 217 to 165 pounds

Fans of HammerWhales' amazing transformation can't believe how she could lose weight and look amazingly gorgeous, especially since she was tall and well-distributed. She started by cutting out fast food (Jillian Michaels kickstarted her change through her 30-Day Shred) and replacing her junk food with homemade meals. She picked up casual cycling and finally upgraded to an all-day workout routine. She lost 50 pounds (and going), took up a style she feels comfortable with, and finally claimed her confidence back.

Finding confidence from within

Not only does HammerWhales report feeling healthier after her lifestyle change, but she sees herself differently now that she is more confident. People have been complimenting her on her transformation but say her after-photos don't truly reflect how differently she actually carries herself. She reinforces that beauty truly shines from the inside out.

Handling intrusive thoughts

HammerWhales also mentions how she struggles with intrusive thoughts, even with a better mind-body balance. She advises that an individual's mental health issue could only be improved to a certain point, given that it is a mental health issue. She's always happy to cheer on someone towards their journey and shares that one needs to keep going down a healthier pathway to reap benefits from a healthier body that could ultimately contribute to a healthy mind.

HammerWhales' journey proves that mental health and overall health go hand-in-hand

What's important to highlight in HammerWhales' journey is how physical health and mental health are intertwined. Addressing both sets of concerns provided a way for her to feel grounded in herself, resulting in a happier outlook on life. We can all take inspiration from her and strive to live a balanced and healthy life.
