Reddit User PikaKyri and Her Weight Loss Journey
PikaKyri is just like any other person who has struggled with weight loss. But instead of keeping mum about it, she shares her journey and progress with fellow health enthusiasts on Reddit. In 2014, she had reached her peak weight of 200lbs and realized that it was time to take control.
The Secret to Her Progress
Although PikaKyri had tried different diet plans and fitness regimens, she found that none of them offered a one-size-fits-all solution. As such, she developed her own plan based on her mood, motivation, and resources. One of the constants in her journey is calorie counting with MyFitnessPal, which she started in her first year. Her plan also included a considerable amount of walking, sometimes up to 20,000 steps per day.
Fitting Fitness into Daily Life
PikaKyri has revealed that her current exercise routine includes strength training with a focus on squats, bench presses, overhead presses, deadlifts, and barbell rows. She usually does three sets of five reps and throws in 3x8 goblet squats or 1x5 deadlift. She also emphasized that exercise should fit into daily life and not something 'extra' you do. She cites being thankful for her slow progress, which allowed her to incorporate activities as part of her everyday routine.
Diet and Fasting
In addition to exercise, PikaKyri has a protein-rich diet that averages 1,800-2,300 calories per day. She recently started a 16/8 fasting plan - an eight-hour eating window followed by 16 hours of fasting. She admits that she's still assessing whether or not it works for her, but the idea is to slowly introduce the eating window concept and carb cycling from LeanGains.
The Takeaway
PikaKyri's journey shows that losing weight isn't an overnight process, but it can be done with a consistent focus on one's diet and exercise routine. Her slow progress was a blessing in disguise that allowed her to incorporate activities into her everyday life. Everyone's fitness journey is unique, and PikaKyri's story is a testament to that. If you're struggling with weight loss, try things out for yourself and find what works best for you. It's a journey, not a destination.
