The start of the journey

Charspaz began his weight journey as a slim 140lbs 19-year-old. He started with the Starting Strength (SS) program with slight modifications. He did not add weight every workout, only every week, and squatted every other workout.

Change in routine

After eight months of SS, he followed the Texas Method, doing squats with a 3x5 rep range. Charspaz tried PHAT, a bodybuilding program, for three years but did not enjoy it. Since then, he continues with a PPL program.

Current workout routine

Charspaz describes his current routine as 1PPLx2PPLx1PPLx2PPL. In 1Push, he performs bench press, DB fly, cable fly, overhead press, lateral raise, DB rear delt fly, rear delt cable high pull, and two different tricep exercises. In 2Push, he does close-grip bench press, incline bench press, cable fly, OHP, lateral raise, DB rear delt fly, rear delt cable high pull and two tricep exercises. Charspaz's 1Pull & 2Pull routine involves deadlifts, cable rows to abs, lat pulldown, lat pushdown, DB shrugs, curls, hammer curls and cable curls. For legs, he squats with 3x5 and 3x8 reps.

Diet

Charspaz usually eats as clean as possible without tracking. He aims for 3-4 meals per day, high in protein. Initially, he followed the 'Gallon of Milk a Day' (GOMAD) protocol but got fat quickly. Currently, he eats till he's full and gets high protein in each meal.

Takeaway

Charspaz showed impressive progress in his lifts and gained over 55lbs since the start of his journey. He attributes his success to dedication, consistency, and a focus on big lifts. Though he performs several accessory exercises, he emphasizes that compound movements such as squats and deadlifts immensely helped his growth. His weight journey shows the importance of focus, consistency and adapting routines according to personal preferences.
