Starting It Off

In July 2011, Reddit user ChicagoGirlBTFC made a courageous and inspiring decision to join the Body Transformation Fitness Challenge. At that time, she was a 29-year-old, 190-pound woman who was ready to make a significant change in her life. She posted on Reddit with her starting stats, including her weight, at 190lbs, and her height at 5'1". Her ultimate goal was to turn 30 by the following year, looking and feeling better than ever. Most people dread taking photos of themselves in skimpy outfits, let alone posting them on the internet, but ChicagoGirlBTFC did just that. That's taking control of her life, and she hoped that sharing her story would inspire others to take the leap as well.

The Journey to Weight Loss Success

Getting started is just the first part, and ChicagoGirlBTFC focused on a mix of dieting and exercise. Her primary plan was to follow a Paleo diet, which meant cutting out processed foods and focusing on lean meats, fruits, and vegetables, along with strength training and cardio. As time went on, she started enjoying exercise and found that reviving a workout schedule and sticking to it makes for discipline. Also, she discovered that it became more comfortable as you make it a part of your routine. ChicagoGirlBTFC felt that she looked better and felt better, having lost 12 pounds and wearing clothes that fit better. She finally felt more confident about herself.

A Supportive Community

What's most significant about ChicagoGirlBTFC's weight loss journey was the amount of support she received from her Reddit community, many of whom were also participating in the fitness challenge. The community's anonymous nature meant that she could post authentically, and many people would cheer her on through the hard times. This was essential in terms of maintaining her focus and dedication with the changes she made in her life. She recommends finding a support group, either online or in-person, to keep one accountable and on track.

Encouragement to Try it Yourself

If you're looking for a motivation to start your own weight loss journey, look no further than ChicagoGirlBTFC's story. You don't necessarily have to follow her exact same method, but realize that starting a journey towards self-improvement is a noble and worthwhile endeavor. The biggest takeaway from her journey is that everyone's journey will be different, with highs and lows that each of us must learn to conquer. Do not be afraid to establish new habits, take progress photos, track progress, and celebrate every little success along the way.

The Finish Line

In October 2011, the Body Transformation Fitness Challenge's deadline came to an end. Reddit user zahrada sent out an automated message reminding ChicagoGirlBTFC and the others in the challenge, to post completion threads regardless if they won or not. When the deadline for ChicagoGirlBTFC's progress report came, she had managed to lose 14 pounds, or 7.4% body weight from her original, which she credits to eating clean and working out. More importantly, she felt that she was merely in the beginning of her journey towards a healthier lifestyle. And she still inspires and cheers on the others looking to make their transformations online.
