Introduction

Alcohol addiction is an issue that can cause a lot of damage not only to one's physical and mental health but also to their relationships and quality of life. The road to recovery can be a tough one that requires a significant lifestyle overhaul. For one Reddit user, fitness was the means to overcome his alcohol problem.

The Regimen

For two months, the user followed a strict diet of around 1500 calories a day while working out 5 days a week during which he would walk 6-10 km per day. His diet consisted of 10% fat, 40% carbs, and 60% protein from blended vegetables, seeds, nuts, fruits and milk with natural, unprocessed whey. On workout days, the user would walk 3.5km each way to the gym and would finish each workout with a core circuit of different exercises. In terms of workouts, he followed a 4-day split that alternated between chest and arms, cardio, back and shoulders, and legs and core. Each session was done within an hour with 4 sets of 8 reps per exercise.

Results

The user lost a total of 15 lbs in just two months thanks to his rigorous regimen. Although he acknowledged that his diet was dangerously low, he used his experience as a former actor to set a tough goal in order to beat his crippling addiction.

Advice

Although the user's routine yielded fantastic results, this regimen is not for everyone. The food intake and activity levels were extremely low and could have been dangerous for anyone who wasn't as experienced with such lifestyle changes. When making significant changes to your diet or exercise program, always consult a healthcare professional first. And as with any fitness goal, consistency is key. If you fall off the wagon, do not be discouraged; instead, try to come back to it with a new strategy and renewed vigor.

Conclusion

Fitness can be a powerful tool for those struggling with addiction or mental health issues. While it may not be a replacement for professional help or therapy, it can positively impact one's physical and mental health and provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment. This user's journey is a testament to the power of fitness in transforming one's life and we hope to see many more stories like his in the future.
